RSC - RESERVOIR SURVEILLANCE & CHARACTERIZATION
Who Should Attend
Is your recovery factor struggling because of divergent layers especially oil reservoirs under displacement process’ (water or gas injection) recovery? In order to improve the situation, you need this course. We will look together at a surveillance plan for your reservoir in order to improve the recovery factor.
Why should you take this course?
It turns out that the largest single impact to improved sweep in a displacement process in your reservoir is to improve vertical conformance. Areal sweep is not the target for this course, but vertical sweep is. This course will help you to add value to your company and your own career by developing a conformance control surveillance plan for your reservoir, based on good reservoir characterization. The reason we couple this with reservoir characterization is that often the reason we do not achieve higher recovery factors is that not only do we lack a a proper reservoir surveillance plan for our reservoirs, but we cannot develop an adequate living surveillance plan, because we lack an adequate understanding of our reservoir as our reservoir characterization is inadequate.
How Can Inadequate Conformance Be Addressed for My Reservoir?
Here is an example of one of the areas to be covered in the course.
- Analyzing the different layer recovery factors for our reservoir, we see divergent recovery factors, due to high velocity units next to low velocity units; how do we address this?
- One reason and approach might be to add more wells. However, more wells will not improve the recovery factor by layer, without an adequate reservoir surveillance plan that is coupled to the added wells.
This is just a glimpse of how we work with conformance control in this course. We look at reservoir characterization and its impact on the reservoir surveillance plan, that in turn helps us improve the recovery factor for your reservoir.
Course Methodology and Philosophy
The course philosophy and methodology is to present the techniques of Reservoir Characterization, Reservoir Surveillance, and Conformance together, as follows:
1. Flow Unit Development from:
- Depositional Environment Understanding
- Vertical Equilibrium vs. No Cross Flow Characterization
- The Impact of Gravity in Displacement Process
2. Tools to Characterize Flow Unit Performance
3. Methodologies to Improve Conformance
We start by asking on a case by case basis, the following questions:
1. Wherein does the problem lie? i.e. Is the problem?
- divergent flow unit velocities,
- connectivity of layers,
- gravity impact.
2. How Can the Problem be Clarified Further?
3. What is the Value of Information from Clarifying the Problem by a Working Reservoir Surveillance Plan (RSP)?
4. How can we prove the process to add value through executing of our RSP?
