NOF - NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN OLD FIELDS
Who Should Attend
The course is tailored for those who are searching for opportunities in a mature oil or gas asset; If you rationalize that the asset is capable of achieving higher economic rent to your company, you are probably right. Our associates can help you “un-lock” un-realized asset potential.
Why should you take this course?
To add value to your company and your own career by adding value to company asset; these questions are reviewed in the course philosophy notes. This course will show you how to unlock opportunities in your mature field; as you review the questions at the bottom of this page, you will see that the course adds value every time it is taught.
New Opportunities in Old Fields – a multidisciplinary team approach; Here is how we teach the course.
With Oil prices above $100 per barrel, our associates can help you find clear opportunities in your old oil and gas fields, through this training, that will add value to your company and your own career by adding value to existing company assets.
Course Methodology and Philosophy
The course philosophy and methodology at EPA is NOT a search to find the ‘right’ reservoir tool, using a matrix of problem vs. solution in that particular reservoir. What is done by EPA in this course is to use targeted case studies to make the firm implication, of the process to follow to find significant New Opportunities in your mature oil and gas fields. Our approach, takes the philosophy that there are many possible outcomes and scenarios, depending on the development options chosen taking into account all uncertainties, and your companies unique asset allocation. We use fit for purpose sections like reservoir characterization for mature fields.
Reservoir Characterization, Petroleum Engineering and Mature Fields
We do not presume on you knowing the basics of Reservoir Characterization or Petroleum Engineering, but we may go back to the basics to get it right, much like a “futbol” coach will go back to the basics with her professionals at times. So, we have added new technology break-through material to the course at the expense of basic material. Please come with your problems, for us to discuss.
Here are the Questions we will Deal with that may have been asset challenges to your organization in the past; let us help you get through the fog, of predicting the future of an oil or gas asset.
The EPA business model of New Opportunities bringing the best of your (Geological and Geophysical) G&G and Reservoir skills to work together, on divergent views, of how to move the reservoir re-development forward.
- The Integrated on-going process of finding new opportunities through your existing annual reserves process; use the reserves process for your company or country, as your “head-lights” to see forward in opportunities.
- Divergent vs. convergent thinking in your mature field, when to use one and not the other; how to determine if you are on the right path, before overcomitting.
- Are your reservoir surveillance tools actually showing you the true reservoir characteristics, or are you in need of new surveillance tools?
- Don’t let the “tail wag the dog” use Reservoir Modeling strategically to find opportunities rather than hiding them, as often our Reservoir Modeling tools “lock opportunities” in history matching; “unlock” these opportunities, by getting back to basics.
- Defining the true, solution space and why it matters to finding opportunities.
- As a mature field manager, know how to “Krig” with a spreadsheet calculation to find opportunities, your engineers, or geologist, or geoscientist may have missed.
- Attributes of flow units that drive opportunities – We find ourselves over- simplifying flow units, and missing opportunities.
- Time units are flow units, if we get the geologic timing right it helps us to find opportunities. Fluid flow understanding is often resolved by understanding geologically compatible flow units.
- The depositional environment (DE) known or inferred from a seismic developed opportunity might require re-orienting wells along anisotropic DE driven drainage patterns, i.e. the way the hydrocarbons got into the reservoir millions of years ago can help define the flow path of human tools to get the reserves out.
- Geophysical tools to find opportunities: These modern tools can help your organization avoid “wasted wells” to explore for opportunities.
- Quick-look petrophysical evaluation simplification can by-pass opportunities; you may need to get away from the easiest to the best tools in petrophysics.
- Targeted EOR for your mature field,
- Intelligent wells – application strategically in mature field cases to un-lock new-opportunities,
- What is the Value of Information (VOI) in a mature field, and how does it change during the life of the field? How can you improve it, using the correct reservoir surveillance tools?
