REO - RESERVOIR ENGINEERING FOR OTHERS

Who Should Attend

The course is tailored for those who are searching to understand the reservoir engineering function in order to do their job properly, or to invest in the industry. It is also possible that as a geoscientist your work products are used by the reservoir engineer and you seek to understand how the RE might be stressing the limits of your data technical uncertainty in their analytical work products. For the investor, by taking this course your understanding of the risks and uncertainties of the estimates of production and reserves forecasting are improved; knowing the way these analytics are done can help you in petroleum company investment decisions.

Why should you take this course?

To add value to your company and your own career by properly understanding the analytical techniques and work products of a hydrocarbon reservoir engineer. This course will help you understand the risk and uncertainties in reservoir engineering analytical estimates.

What is Hydrocarbon Reservoir Engineering?

It is often described as an “Art”, and encompasses these aspects:

  • Analyzing the observed changes in pressure and fluid saturation as a consequence of the production that we have taken out of and injection we have put into the reservoir.

  • Using this analysis to allow you to predict what will happen in the future as you continue with the existing plan or change your plans of operation.

  • Always endeavoring to maximize the economic value of the field.

The complication comes at the start, when discovery of an oil and gas reservoir occurs and there is no history for the Reservoir Engineer to observe. The risks and uncertainties at this stage in a petroleum reservoir increase astronomically.

The geoscience functions and all of their inherent uncertainties with analytical work in hydrocarbon reservoirs is closely tied to the hydrocarbon petroleum engineers risks, since these functions work off of each other, especially in a modern petroleum company environment.

Course Methodology and Philosophy

The course philosophy and methodology is to present the basics of the complicated nature of reservoir engineering calculations, through a hands on approach.

Course Objectives:

  1. Reservoir Engineering (RE) work products and analytical techniques,
  2. How your work can benefit from RE analysis,
  3. How your work is utilized by the reservoir engineers to allow them to better perform their work, and
  4. Uses and limitations inherent in RE analysis.
  5. In addition, you will have the opportunity to perform some typical RE tasks to understand the under lying risks and uncertainties.
